Waterville Valley Mountain Race
SEPTEMBER 21st, 2025
PRESENTED BY ASCEND HUMAN PERFORMANCE COACHING | BENEFITTING WATERVILLE VALLEY ADAPTIVE SPORTS
This is a one lap up/down mountain race and is part of the historic USATF-New England Mountain Racing Circuit. Terrain surfaces include grassy ski slopes and gravel-y service “roads”. The course will feature three aid stations, at approximately 2.7 miles, 4.3 miles, and 5.2 miles. Hiking poles are prohibited at this USATF sanctioned event. Commercial photography and/or videography at our events is strictly prohibited unless advanced permission has been granted. Please contact the Race Director for further information. The use of drones at our events is prohibited. Spectators wishing to take photos or videos must remain off the course at all times. No transfers. Refunds issued, upon request, up the start of the event. We’re very proud that this event benefits Waterville Valley Adaptive Sports.

26TH ANNUAL CHILI CHALLENGE

Waterville Valley restaurants compete in Town Square for the title of the best chili in the Valley! With your admission fee, you’ll get to sample of every restaurant’s chili and cast your vote to a chili ballot.
FEE: $7.50 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under.

Waterville's 3rd Annual Schwendi Fest is taking place on October 12th! This mountain-top extravaganza celebrates the stunning foliage season while looking ahead to ski season! Enjoy a scenic chairlift ride up Tecumseh Express and treat yourself to a Schwendi Hutte BBQ, and drinks. There will be plenty of family-friendly games and activities -water balloon launches, treasure hunts, musical chairs, and more! We'll be firing up the Schwendi Hutte BBQ, grilling burgers, hot dogs, and bratwursts! Hot apple cider (spiked and unspiked), beer, and wine will be available for purchase. If you're staying in the valley, you can hop on the resort trolley and ride it up to the ski resort!
Wear a cozy sweater, sip on some hot apple cider, bring the kids to paint pumpkins, and take in mountainous foliage views, all from 3,600’ elevation. Whether you’re looking to leaf-peep, enjoy quality family time, or simply sit on the Schwendi Hutte deck and crack open a cold one - there’s no better place to spend your long weekend!

Skip the lines and pick up your ticket ahead of time! Stop by the Waterville Valley Resort Welcome Center and pick up your Schwendi Fest tickets! Tickets will be available for pickup Friday (10/3) - Saturday (10/11) at the Welcome Center. Beginning Sunday (10/12), tickets will ONLY be available for pickup at the Ski Resort Ticket Window. Once you pick up your tickets from the Welcome Center, you can head straight to the lift on Sunday!
SEATING
Seating may be limited - we encourage you to bring picnic blankets (no lawn chairs will be allowed on the chairlift).
ADULT BEVERAGES
Please be aware that, in accordance with the New Hampshire Liquor Commission rules & regulations, outside alcohol cannot be consumed at the summit. Given this rule is a stipulation of our liquor liscene, we will be strictly enforcing this policy. Coolers will not be allowed on the chairlift. You'll be able to purchase alcoholic beverages from the Schwendi Hutte. If you're planning on enjoying some adult beverages during Schwendi Fest, please remember to bring your government-issued I.D.

Black Bear Trail Races

Welcome to the Black Bear Trail Races, hosted by White Mountain Endurance in scenic Waterville Valley, New Hampshire!
Join them for an unforgettable trail running experience with events for every level. Test your limits with their demanding 50K, a formidable journey boasting 7,700 feet of climbing around iconic 4,000 foot peaks, or choose the classic 23K course through the oldest maintained trail network in the United States.
They also offer a beautiful 4 mile tour of White Mountain forests and streams with no road, and a delightful 1 mile Bear Cub Fun Run for the whole family! All four courses start and finish near the Waterville Valley Town Square, and promise stunning views, finisher's medals, post-race snacks, and the spirit of mountain running.

BLACK BEAR 50K
Embark on a 50-kilometer journey with us around the 4000 foot peaks surrounding Waterville Valley. The course starts near Town Square, covering a total of 7,700 feet of cumulative elevation gain as it climbs Snow's Mountain, East Osceola, Osceola, and Tecumseh, before sending it back to Town Square for a hero's welcome. Racers will be supported with multiple aid stations along the way. THIS IS NO SMALL FEAT!
BLACK BEAR 23K
Race along the 23K course that participants on the oldest maintained trail network in the US. Starting and finishing in the picturesque Town Square, the route rolls along the valley floor and into the hills as you travel in the shadows of the towering 4,000 foot peaks of Tecumseh, the Osceolas, and the Tripyramids. The course features three aid stations with hydration and nutrition.
BLACK BEAR 4 MILER
Four scenic trails miles and 600 feet of climbing on singletrack and doubletrack through White Mountain forests and streams around the valley floor.
THE BEAR CUB FUN RUN
The whole family, including Grandma and Grandpa, will enjoy the scenic 1-mile Bear Cub Fun Run!
MANDATORY EQUIPMENT
Mandatory equipment is required for 50K participants at the Black Bear Trail Races. Mountain weather is subject to extreme changes and a large portion of the course over the mountain is fully exposed to the elements. Be responsible. You will be disqualified if you do not carry the mandatory gear listed below and it will be checked upon bib pickup on race morning.

VOLUNTEERING
We appreciate our volunteers! Join us in providing an awesome experience! For many, volunteering is rewarding in its own right and a great way to give back to the running community. For others, it is a way to see things from the other side of the table, and learn a lot about running races before jumping into them. All volunteers earn race credits toward any future Aravaipa event. Register for an available shift for the Black Bear Trail Races.

The season begins in July and runs through the summer, every Sunday afternoon at 3PM. Play normally lasts two hours, and is accompanied by potluck drinks and nibbles.
