White Mountain Athletic Club Marks 30th year of Continuous Operations
White Mountain Athletic Club, Inc. (WMAC), with headquarters in Waterville Valley, NH, announces its milestone 30th year of operations this month. Opened in September of 1995, WMAC, Inc. owns and operates the White Mountain Athletic Club - a full service athletic club featuring indoor and outdoor 25m swimming pools, a 1400 square foot children’s Splash Pad, complete cardio and weight rooms, two indoor tennis courts, racquetball, the Coyote Grill Restaurant, sauna, steam room and whirlpool spas, personal programs, massage, and more. The original personnel, including President/Owner and USRPA professional Tom Gross, Jr. and General Manager Rene Schwartz, along with key staff are still in their roles today.
WMAC also owns and operates the Waterville Valley Tennis Center (WVTC), an award-winning 18-clay court outdoor tennis facility named by Tennis Magazine as one of the 50 Greatest Tennis Resorts in the U.S. and also chosen as one of the Top Five Family Resorts in the United States. Since 2005, the WVTC has been named a Gold Medal Resort by tennisresortsonline.com, with ranking consistently in the Top 20 in the World.
WMAC owner and USRPA Director Tom Gross, Jr. states, “From the moment we had the opportunity presented to us by Tom Corcoran, former owner of the club, we felt an obligation to our members and community to provide the highest level of operation and enjoyment in our facilities. There is an excellent vibe between our members and guests. From swimming and working out or relaxing poolside at WMAC, to mixed doubles and socials, to match making, the staff and members really put the effort into making it fun for everyone. We continually look for ways to improve and maintain theWMAC and Tennis Center. And I have to think the 18 red clay courts surrounded by 4,000-foot mountains and the beautiful resort village really add to the overall experience.”
Since 1884, guests have enjoyed tennis in Waterville Valley and this summer their ranking continues the long tradition of providing a first-rate tennis center for vacationers.
General Manager Rene Schwartz stated, “I’m really proud of the staff and atmosphere we’ve created here, and I thank our membership for their ongoing commitment to having a clean modern facility here in Waterville Valley. And our vacationers, who have many choices in a crowded summer vacation market, continue to list the athletic club as a key amenity when staying here in Waterville Valley.”
The Coyote Grill restaurant, located on the second floor, is also still in operation and is the longest continuously owned restaurant in the area. Open to the public, the Coyote Grill serves up great American dining and locally sourced specials nightly.
“This coming December, the Coyote Grille will celebrate their 30th anniversary too,” stated Gross. “Sean Stout has been an absolute pleasure to work with for three decades. His staff, his menus, his consistency has been extraordinary. What an honor it has been for both the WMAC and Coyote to be under the same roof.”
Guests staying in participating Waterville Valley lodges receive a Freedom Pass which includes unlimited tennis court time, mountain biking, chairlift rides, boat rentals, town recreation department programming, valley wide shuttle service and access to the White Mountain Athletic Club and a variety of other recreational amenities.
WMAC, Inc. provides modern, four-season recreational opportunities, currently in the form of the WMAC and the WVTC, to property owners, vacationers, and local townspeople in Waterville Valley and the greater Waterville Valley area.
