Waterville Valley is a town rich in history and culture. Whether you’re interested in hiking and ski history, or literature there are a variety of ways to experience and learn about the Valley. check out the list of some of our Resort Association members below.
The Rey Cultural Center
Margret and H.A. Rey, authors of the Curious George children’s books, were summer residents of Waterville Valley. The Reys were artists and adventurers, historians and naturalists, gardeners and stewards. Today their pursuits live on in the Margret and H.A. Rey Center at the Curious George Cottage in Waterville Valley (the Reys’ former summer home). The Rey Cultural Center is a nonprofit organization that honors the Reys’ spirit of curiosity and discovery by increasing understanding of and participation in art, science and nature programs for youth, adults and families.
Theatre Under the Stars
Theatre Under the Stars has been bringing culture and entertainment to Waterville Valley for over 17 years. This in-house professional summerstock theatre troupe performs family-friendly theatrical productions for locals and guests free of charge. Featured by the Boston Globe and New York Times, Theatre Under the Stars offers a variety of summer shows, matinees, and kids camps. Led by Donna Devlin - an award-winning, Emmy-nominated theatre, film and television professional - Theatre Under the Stars offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy spectacular theatrical productions with panoramic mountain views as the backdrop. Over 20,000 people from across the East Coast have seen their shows, from plays by children's theatre troupes to entire productions performed by groups of established actors, some of whom have performed at some of the most distinguished Shakespeare festivals across the globe. The Waterville Valley Community is incredibly lucky to have these resident thespians throughout the summer.
FREE OUTDOOR CONCERTS
Local musicians take the Gazebo Stage every weekend during July and August. Waterville Valley is an open container town, so you can enjoy an adult libation in Town Square and groove to live music.
Waterville Valley Historical Society
The Waterville Valley Historical Society is proud to preserve and honor the history of this great town. From the early days of development and discover to the modern town we see today, the historical society provides insight and knowledge of the Waterville Valley’s past. For a fun glimpse of Waterville Valley in the early days, stop by the Welcome Center and enjoy the Historical Society’s display featuring activities in the Valley, some of which we still enjoy today!
SUMMER BLOOMS AT WATERVILLE VALLEY
Beautiful flowering gardens and planters paint the Waterville Valley landscape with vibrant color throughout the summer. Summer Blooms at Waterville Valley is an annual and sustainable planting partnership program of The Rey Cultural Center Margret’s Hat Gardening Group and Dreamscape Hospitality. The program brings thousands of flowers to this tiny town in the middle of the White Mountain National Forest.
