Waterville Valley Resort's Memorial Day kick-off to the summer season will offer lots of events and activities for the whole family. The 22nd Annual Chowder & Microbrew Fest, Sunday, May 29, 2011. The Brews will be available from 12pm – 5pm, and tickets will go on sale for the Chowderfest at 12pm and close at 2pm, or whenever chowder runs out! Santa Arrives by Dog Team, a Family Charity Event in Waterville Valley

Santa and his team will arrive at the gazebo to greet the crowds at 3:30 P.M. Visits with Santa will take place in the Nordic Center in Town Square after the dogs are safely unharnessed, and will continue until Santa sees the last child. Each child will receive a small gift and candy from Santa and his elves. For a suggested donation of $5 per child, photo opportunities with Santa will be available. FINGERSTYLE GUITAR VITRUOSO STEVIE COYLE AT REY CENTER

Fingerstyle guitar virtuoso Stevie Coyle will play a solo concert at the Margret and H.A. Rey Center in Waterville Valley Resort’s Town Square on Wednesday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. Coyle was former rhythm, fingerstyle and lap steel guitarist and vocalist with Americana string band, The Waybacks. Coyle is presently playing solo, touring nationwide, and last year completed his first solo CD, produced by singer/songwriter and guitar guru Walter Strauss. He is known for his finger-picking style, humor, intelligence, storytelling, and for being a well-rounded entertainer.

Chili Challenge and Car Cruise at Waterville Valley

Things heat up at Waterville Valley Resort’s 12th Annual Chili Challenge, held from noon until the chili is gone, Saturday October 2nd in Town Square. Waterville Valley area restaurants will have the chance to compete for the title of the King of Chili. Visitors will pay a small fee, which gives them access to sample all of the restaurant entries. After sampling each chili, guests can vote for their favorite. Fall Events and Deals

Early predictions are for a vibrant autumn show of color, following a dry summer. But, the trick is to find a place that is off the beaten path, and where you can has easy access to trails and views. Waterville Valley Resort is located in the heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest, a place where the brilliant colors of autumn highlight every activity--and there are more activities than you can shake a leaf at. Waterville Valley has two fun weekend planned for the height of foliage season, starting on Saturday October 2, 2010 with the 12th Annual Chili Challenge. Area restaurants will compete in Town Square for the title of the best chili around. You be the judge, and the chilies compete the vista of color that are 360 degrees around you. The event starts at noon, accompanied by a free outdoor concert in the gazebo.

The New Hampshire Humane Society will set up a pet station in Town Square with some of their finest animals. The day ends with fireworks over Corcoran’s Pond, sponsored by the Town Square Merchants and Atlas Fireworks.

The 4th Annual Curious George Cottage Family Festival returns next month to speak to the curiosity in us all. Celebrate the 4th of July with a Bang at Waterville Valley

Spend the 4th of July weekend at Waterville Valley for a weekend full of excitement the whole family can enjoy. The fun starts of Saturday, July 3rd from 11 – 3 p.m. with an Independence Day Family Carnival. Children and adults can partake in games, t-shirt tie-dying, a 100-foot obstacle course, a barbeque, bounce house, live music, dunk tank, and more. An admission fee of $10 per child allows participation to all field activities throughout the day and one complementary boat rental per wristband. Children 3 and under are free. There is also an additional fee for the BBQ. From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. a free evening concert will be offered in Town Square.

MARGRET AND H.A. REY CENTER’S WATER WATCHERS INVITES VOLUNTEERS

The Margret and H.A. Rey Center in Waterville Valley, in cooperation with Plymouth State University’s Center for the Environment invites you to participate in its volunteer water-quality monitoring program, Water Watchers. Now in its third year, Water Watchers meet every second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Margret and H.A. Rey Center in Waterville Valley’s Town Square. Community members are invited to participate in a special Volunteer Training Workshop on Wednesday, June 23 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Rey Center. Volunteer Training Workshop participants will learn about factors impacting water quality and the specific tests that are done to determine water quality. Following the introductory presentation will be a field session to learn how to collect water samples and measure water quality parameters in the field. There is no charge to participate.

Rey Center is excited to offer a great new program, “Learn to Fly Fish,” on Saturday, June 26 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Rey Center at Waterville Valley Town Square! Two Alpine Championship Series

RESCHEDULED: THE LIFE CYCLE OF LOONS BY JOHN ROCKWOOD

The Margret & H.A. Rey Center has rescheduled the Saturday, February 27 program by John Rockwood, “The Life Cycle of Loons,” to Saturday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. This special program will feature stories and over 200 slides of loon photos Rockwood captured from his kayak on beautiful Lake Massabesic. “The Life Cycle of Loons” is recommended for adults and families with children ages 8+. Waterville Valley Resort’s golf course will be opening for the 111st season by May 16. The historic course was born in 1898 when a group of vacationers picked rocks out of a pasture and created the first holes of what’s now the Waterville Valley Golf Club. FISHING IN AND AROUND WATERVILLE VALLEY

Nathaniel Greeley built a farmhouse on the floor of the valley sometime around 1845 and found the Mad River and its tributaries loaded with large native, wild brook trout. Shortly after moving in, fishermen began arriving and asked to stay at the farmhouse. As word spread around Boston and business improved, a hotel was planned. An ardent admirer wrote in the Boston Journal “Trouting is a great attraction for the gentlemen, many brooks prolific in the spotted beauty emptying themselves into the main river”.
