Valentine's Day is just around the corner!  Do you have big plans for you and that special someone yet?  The Rey Center has you covered; "Celebrate an Historic Romance," our Valentines Day fundraiser, will be an evening to remember!  Get your tickets before it's too late (details below)! Leading up to Valentine's Day, entertain yourself with a full moon ski, ski documentaries, Film Night, Walk-Talks, Curious Tots, Popcorn and PJ's Movie Night (starring Curious George himself!), and more! The Rey Center is partnering with White Mountain Adventures to offer this unique, guided full moon skiing adventure. Dress for winter weather with warm layers, bring cross-country skis, water and a headlamp or flashlight. Adults and families with children ages 15+. Meet at the Margret and H.A. Rey Center, Waterville Valley Resort's Town Square. Fee: $8 per person for Rey Center members, $12 per person for non-members. Minimum enrollment required by noon the day of the program. Please register in advance by calling 603-236-3308 or email programs@thereycenter.org. Ski Documentary Night Showing: Intrepid Descent and Thrills and Spills in the North Country Saturday, January 30 - 6:00-7:30 p.m AND Friday, February 12 - 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Join us to watch two ski documentaries with local ties on the "big screen." Both films will be shown both nights. Intrepid Descent studies the lure of Tuckerman's Ravine while Thrills and Spills in the North Country, a New England Ski Museum film, contains scenes of North Conway and Woodstock, among others.   All ages welcome. Location: Margret and H.A. Rey Center, Waterville Valley Resort's Town Square. Fee: $5 per person suggested donation.  BYOB.  Popcorn provided.   Film Night: Doubt and School Ties Join us for our next two films and keep an eye on the Rey Center website for additional film nights in March. Film Night: Doubt Wednesday, February 10 - 7:00 p.m. Film adaptation of award-winning play by John Patrick Shanley.  Stars Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. BYOB. Popcorn supplied. Adults. $5.00 per person suggested donation. Film Night: School Ties Wednesday, February 17 - 7:00 p.m. Boys will be boys, but when does it cross a line?  Set in a haughty Eastern boarding school, this film touches on themes of racism and classicism, among others.  BYOB. Popcorn supplied. Adults. $5.00 per person suggested donation. Curious Tots: Animals in Winter Saturday, February 13-10:00-11:00am What do animals do during the winter? Join us for a story, craft and outdoor activities as we discover what winter holds for the animal world. Parents must attend with children. Families with children ages 3-6. Held at the Margret and H.A. Rey Center, Waterville Valley Resort's Town Square, NH. Fee: $5.00 per child for Rey Center members, $8 per child for non-members. Attend Dr. Michele Pruyn's winter ecology walk-talk and learn about the northeast's winter environment. Explore snow, weather, and the outdoor environment to sharpen your knowledge and get outdoors. We will begin with an indoor presentation and then head outside to experience the winter world first hand. Minimum enrollment required by noon on Friday before. Walk-Talk: Animal Tracks and Signs with Dr. Rick Van de Poll Saturday, February 20 - 1:00-4:00 p.m. Ever wonder about the animal tracks you find in the snow? Join Dr. Rick Van de Poll to learn how to read and interpret the tracks and signs that animals leave behind. We will begin with an indoor presentation and then head outside to identify all the tracks we can find!  Minimum enrollment required by noon on Friday before. Location: Margret and H.A. Rey Center, Waterville Valley Resort's Town Square. Adults and families with children ages 8+. $10 per person for Rey Center members, $20 per person for non-members.To register contact the Margret and H.A. Valentine's Day Soiree: "Celebrate an Historic Romance" Sunday, February 14 - 6:30 p.m. Join us for this romantic evening of dinner and song at the home of Donald Jasinski in Waterville Valley to benefit the Margret and H.A. Rey Center. Featuring entertainment by famed Broadway singer and actress Maureen Brennan and a meal catered by Waterville Valley's own Chef Sean Stout of the Coyote Grill. Curious George Story Time Every Saturday - 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. AND 4:00-5:00 p.m. Stop by before lunch or after a day of skiing and pull up a bean bag chair to hear your favorite Rey stories read out loud. Selections will include stories from the Curious George series as well as other Rey favorites such as Pretzel, Elizabite, Cicely G and more. All ages welcome. Location: Margret and H.A. WVAIA Winter Hikes Winter Hikes with the WVAIA Saturdays - 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Join the Rey Center and the WVAIA for volunteer-led snowshoe hikes to a different destination each week. Bring snowshoes, adequate water, lunch, snacks, and appropriate clothing for winter weather conditions, including winter hiking boots and extra layers. Adults and families with children ages 12+. Meet at the Curious George Cottage at 9:00 a.m. for carpooling to destination. No charge, donations welcome. January 30 - Flume Brook Trail: 5.6 mile roundtrip February 13 - Jennings Peak: 5.8 miles roundtrip   Literary Discussion Group Every Saturday 4:30-6:00 p.m. Join us at the Curious George Cottage for this intellectual evening discussing poetry, short stories, essays and more.  The January 30 meeting will discuss, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," by Samuel Taylor Colderidge. Readings are available for pickup at the Curious George Cottage. Potluck wine and appetizers - please bring something to share!
