Waterville Valley will soon become the focus of the alpine ski world. Waterville Valley Black & Blue Trail Smashers Ski Educational Foundation (WVBBTS) will play host to two championship alpine events this month at Waterville Valley Ski Area- NorAm Cup Finals and J4 Future Stars. USSA, the national governing body for skiing and snowboarding, selected BBTS to host these events at the Waterville Valley Ski Area in March

RESCHEDULED: THE LIFE CYCLE OF LOONS BY JOHN ROCKWOOD

The Margret & H.A. Rey Center has rescheduled the Saturday, February 27 program by John Rockwood, “The Life Cycle of Loons,” to Saturday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. This special program will feature stories and over 200 slides of loon photos Rockwood captured from his kayak on beautiful Lake Massabesic. “The Life Cycle of Loons” is recommended for adults and families with children ages 8+. There is a $5 per person suggested donation to attend.

Spring ski deals

This spring, skiers can save while hitting the slopes at the biggest ski mountain south of New Hampshire's Notch. The "Spring It On" package includes lodging in a one-bedroom condo or lodge room and lift tickets. The Waterville Valley Resort is offering this deal midweek throughout March, plus the weekends of March 26 to 28 and April 2 to 4, 2010. Packages start at $61 per person for one including skiing. s/b Packages start at $61 per person, quad occupancy in a one bedroom condominium.

POACHER THE POOCH

The Margret and H.A. Rey Center in Waterville Valley is pleased to announce that NH Fish & Game Conservation Officer Mark Hensel and his canine companion, Poacher the Pooch, are visiting Waterville Valley on Friday, March 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m! The program begins with an indoor presentation, then heads outside to demonstrate Poacher’s fish catching (and crime-fighting) skills! Admission is by donation. Recommended for adults and families with children ages 8+.

The Margret and H.A. Rey Center and the Waterville Valley Black and Blue Trail Smashers (WVBBTS) in Waterville Valley have teamed up to present an exciting program, “Waterville Valley: Birthplace of Freestyle Skiing.” The program, which includes presentations by a former WVBBTS athlete turned freestyle coach, a former BBTS parent and organizer in the early sport of freestyle and the Freestyle Program Director, Nick Preston, takes place on Saturday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Margret and H.A. Rey Center in Waterville Valley Resort’s Town Square. All ages are welcome. There is a $5.00 per person suggested donation to attend.

ART GALLERY OPENING RECEPTION: “THE NATURE OF ART”

The Margret & H.A. Rey Center announces the opening reception of “THE NATURE OF ART” on Friday, February 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The exhibit features work by three New Hampshire artists: John Rockwood, Sarah Mazur, and Karina Mitchell, using a variety of mediums to capture elements of the natural world in art. On Saturday, February 27 at 6:30 p.m., artist John Rockwood will present a gallery program: “Life Cycle of Loons,” using his stunning photography to illustrate the life of a loon from chick to breeding adult.

Canadian school vacation week celebrated at Waterville Valley with package ski deal

From February 28 to March 5 and March 14-19, Waterville Valley Resort welcomes Canadians on school break with a special five-night, midweek rate of $310 per person, including quad-occupancy lodging and daily lift tickets or Nordic passes. The package is available Sunday through Thursday nights, with skiing Monday through Friday.

Kids Ski Free for New Hampshire Vacation Week in Waterville Valley

New Hampshire's February school break turns out to be a break for the whole family with a "Kids Ski Free" package deal that includes lodging and lift tickets at Waterville Valley Resort. For each paid adult, one child gets a free lift ticket. The package also includes a 50 percent discount on rentals, group lessons and all-day “Kids Venture Kamps” and child care. The package is priced from $48 per person, per night, quad-occupancy, with a two-night minimum stay required and at least two adults in the party. The package is available February 21 to 25, 2010.

Snow Science with Dr. Michele Pruyn will take place Saturday, February 13 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and Animal Tracks & Signs by Dr. Rick Van de Poll will take place Saturday, February 20 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Margret and H.A. Rey Center in Waterville Valley Resort’s Town Square. The programs, which begin with an indoor presentation, then head outside to explore, are open to adults and families with children ages 12+. Waterville Resort opens Concierge Booth

New Hampshire’s only planned resort town, Waterville Valley, just added two new features to keep families and visitors coming back. The first is a Concierge Booth, located in Town Square, which is the hub of activity in Waterville. The Concierge Booth is open every day until Labor Day, offering up-to-the-minute information each day’s special programs, recommended activities and dining options, as well as helpful tips on getting around. The concierge on duty will information on the many miles of hiking and biking trails through the surrounding White Mountain National Forest, as well as the best places to swim, dine or see the stars

The facility is already a Mecca for skateboarders and BMXers of all abilities, with its pyramids, banked ramps, handrails and quarter pipes. It also features fast, steel-faced ramps and pipes. The outdoor dirt BMX track here is equipped with jumps, banked turns, dips and more.

Waterville Valley Resort is staging an End of Summer Bash & Fireworks for families on Sunday, September 6 from noon to 9 p.m. The day includes free outdoor concerts, kid’s games and the annual charity Duck Race on Snow’s Brook. Mix Chocolate & Jazz at Waterville Valley

Waterville Valley Resort’s 10th Annual Chocolate & Jazz event will be held Saturday, August 1 in the Town Square from 6 to 9 p.m. In the courtyard circled by shops and restaurants, an evening of palate pleasures is planned. Chocolate temptations offered by area merchants are sold by the piece under the lit outdoor canopy, while the Tom Robinson Trio puts on a jazz concert from the gazebo, free to the public. This year additional activities include chocolate hand murals, and (for the chocolate Diva!), a Name-That-Chocolate-Bar contest.

As NH is Poised to Enact Dark Skies, Waterville Valley Reflects on 2 Years of Star Gazing

New Hampshire Governor John Lynch is expected to sign a bill this week that would establish a state dark skies policy encouraging efficient outdoor lighting. The new law will set the state to follow the successful installation two years ago of nearly 50 “Dark Skies” streetlights in Waterville Valley Resort, when the town became a pioneer Dark Skies community.

AN EXCITING 75TH YEAR FOR WVBBTS

It was quite a 75th anniversary year for the Waterville Valley Black and Blue Trail Smashers and its athletes. Among its top organizational accomplishments, the WVBBTS Freestyle Team was named the USSA Freestyle Club of the Year by USSA, the governing body for snowsports in the US, for the third time in nine years. WVBBTS was also selected by USSA as the US Ski and Snowboard Association’s April 2009 Club Focus of the Month.

Theatre Under the Stars

Renowned for its’ “bare bones bard” style, the New York Times and Boston Globe featured Theatre Under the Stars announces its’ own “stimulus package” of stimulating shows, with 80% of its’ 2009 Summer shows offered FREE or “Pay What You Can”.

Waterville Valley Chili Challenge Kept things Hot

Waterville Valley Town Square hosted the 11th Annual Chili Challenge on Sunday, May 24. Seven local restaurants served chili to nearly 450 people, who then voted for their favorite.

Student-Athlete Of The Year

Waterville Valley Academy alumni (2004) Sean McNamara (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) was named the 2009 recipient of the Jim Urquhart Student-Athlete of the Year by the University of New Hampshire athletic department at UNH’s annual Senior Banquet earlier this month.

The Waterville Valley Golf Course opening has been delayed - to Friday, May 22 - in order to help the greens recover from the snowy winter. We appreciate your help communicating this information to our residents and guests.

Waterville Valley Resort Golf Club Opens for 111th Year

Waterville Valley Resort’s golf course will be opening for the 111st season by May 16. The historic course was born in 1898 when a group of vacationers picked rocks out of a pasture and created the first holes of what’s now the Waterville Valley Golf Club. Back then, greens fees were $1 and the course was maintained with a horse lawn mower.

Waterville Valley Resort Offers Chili Challenge & Carnival Rides

Waterville Valley Resort’s 11th Annual Chili Challenge will be held at noon, Sunday May 24 in Town Square. Waterville Valley Resort restaurants will compete for the title of the best chili around. Visitors will pay a small fee to sample all of the entries and be given a chance to vote for their favorites. Fun for the entire family: kids carnival rides, crazy balloon twisting and close-up magic, face painting… and prepare to sweat in the hottest chili pepper eating contest! Free outdoor concert accompanies the cook-off.
