New Hampshire Primary Tales: How Ike Brought Curious George to New Hampshire in 1952

Long before there was a “Dixville Notch” primary, there was a midnight primary in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, capturing national attention in 1952, and every four years into the 1960s. In that very first New Hampshire Primary about a dozen voters cast their votes at midnight, giving the majority to Dwight Eisenhower.

Waterville Valley to Offer Unique Dog Sledding Tours

Waterville Valley Resort has a new dogsled program that will begin running in late December. The “Snow Dogz” program offers a choice of two excursions that will run every Friday and Saturday evening through the end of March. Guests have the opportunity to experience the unique tours by moonlight or headlight.

Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 marks the 21st annual "Santa Arrives by Dog Team." Santa and his elves are pulled into Waterville Valley’s Town Square courtyard by a team of Alaskan sled dogs. Santa Arrives by Dog Team for Santa Visits, Tree Lighting, and Fireworks

Pulled by a team of Alaskan sled dogs, Santa and his elves will arrive in Town Square at 3:30 p.m. Visits with Santa and elves will then commence inside the Nordic Center, and will continue until Santa sees the last child, usually around 7 pm. Each child will receive a small gift and candy from Santa and his elves, and parents are welcome to take photos of their children with Santa. Hot cocoa and cookies will be on hand. A raffle will be held for an assortment of prizes donated by Waterville Valley area businesses.

Halloween one week early!

Waterville Valley Resort has a full slate of Halloween activities planned for October 21st and 22nd. Kick off the spooktacular weekend by joining the After School Antics Program on Friday, October 21st from 2:45 p.m.-5:00 p.m. for a Haunted Halloween Movie showing and popcorn. All kids from Kindergarten through 8th grade are welcome. $10 per child.

Well, not really, but come to the Waterville Valley Haunted Halloween Happenings on October 21st and 22nd. Calling all kids, ghouls, Jonas brothers, and vampires for a fun pizza party, pumpkin carving & decorating on Friday at the Waterville Valley Recreation Department from 6-7:30 p.m. Enjoy a spooky pizza dinner, then decorate or carve a Halloween Pumpkin. Kids can bring their own pumpkin or purchase one.

Just Ducky! End of Summer Bash will take place from noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 4 in Town Square at Waterville Valley. Family activities are accompanied by free outdoor concerts, followed by the annual charity Duck Race on Snow’s Brook, which delights participants and spectators of all ages and offers cash prizes for the fastest three ducks. A free evening concert by The 2 Pauls is punctuated with an annual fireworks display over Corcoran Pond at 8:30.

The festival is a 2-day event this August 13-14, featuring a weekend full of family-friendly activities with Curious George and the Man With the Yellow Hat including a banana pancake breakfast, a family nature walk, live music, a BBQ lunch with Curious George, photo opportunities with the characters, a traveling barnyard, face painting, games for kids, Curious George story hour and craft time, planetarium shows, and a family spaghetti dinner.

The Margret and H.A. Rey Center in Waterville Valley is pleased to present the first in our 2011 Lecture Series. The Rey Center has received a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council to present “Saving the Mountains: NH & Creating the National Forests” on Friday, July 15 at 8:00 pm. This lecture by Marcia Schmidt Blaine will explore the relationship between our mountains and the individuals who worked to protect them.

he Margret and H.A. Rey Center and Waterville Valley Town Square present an eclectic collection of local area talent coming together in support of the Margret and H.A. Rey Center’s art education programs. We invite you to view the talent of 20 local area artists who have generously donated their work for this fundraising exhibit titled “The Art of Giving.” Their work will be on display in the Rey Center Gallery from Friday, July 1st to Saturday, July 30th with an opening reception on Friday, July 1 from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. The exhibit and the opening are free and open to the public. If you like what you see, join us on Saturday, July 30 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm for “Art, Wine and Cheese” presented by Waterville Valley Town Square.

Dogs Unite at Waterville Valley’s “Paws on Packard’s Field” Event

The Paws on Packard’s Field event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 21st. Dogs are invited for an evening of playing, fetching and just being dogs. Pet owners are invited as well. A silent auction, dog show and fetch contest are just some of the activities offered. The event is free.

Corcoran’s Pond , a 5 acre lake located next to the Town Square in the heart of the village will host canoe, kayak and paddle boat races on a designated course around the pond starting at 11:30 AM . Required registration opens at 11 AM. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 places in each event. There is a $5 per person entry fee per race.

Celebrate the 4th of July with a Fun-Filled 3 Day weekend at Waterville Valley

Spend the 4th of July weekend at Waterville Valley for a weekend full of excitement for the whole family. The fun starts Saturday, July 2nd from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an Independence Day Family Carnival in the Town Square. Children and adults can partake in games, giant inflatables, , a 100-foot obstacle course, , bounce house, live music by The Chris White Band and more.
